On the Gaming Table: Dwarvern Forge Den of Evil Expansion Set

I got my Den of Evil Expansion Set  today and like I said yesterday I made a quick setup with my other DoE sets and a few Dark Eldar and Death Korps troops to get a feeling what is possible to build with this expansion. While I like the design of the product there are a few paint differences between the pieces and the accuracy of fit is not optimal. And some parts have slight height differences which makes it more difficult to place miniatures or to build another level upon them.
All in all not that bad of a problem but I'm used to a great quality whenever I buy a set from Dwarven Forge and this is not quite as good as usual. So I wanted to see how it looks in a normal setup:

Color differences are nothing new between the sets (even though this should not be happening) so the slightly different colors in the new set don't really stand out.

The color changes between the tiles are noticeable but not so bad. And I closed the hugest gap with one of the tentacle walls which actually fits nicely.

To sum it up: Cool! :) I could have been even more amazed with this new set without the little gaps and color changes and so forth. But in the end I'm very pleased with what can be done with it. :)

Miniature Spotlight: Dark Eldar Succubus and Lhamaean

I'm almost done painting the Empire Greatswords. In the meantime here are two more miniatures painted by Elena for my Dark Eldar army:

And my new Dwarven Forge set should arrive tomorrow. When it does I will make a little setup with the Dark Eldar army because I want to play with my new toys because I want to see how they look in action and to get a feeling on how to use the new set. :)

I really like the Reavers. They look really cool and awesome. I magnetized the weapon options to make them interchangeable before I gave these as a commission to Elena who painted them up for me:

I received my latest batch of Dark Eldar miniatures from Elena which consists of 5 Hellions, 5 Scourges, 3 Reavers, a Lhamaean, a Succubus as well as Asharah from Raging Heroes as an Archon.

I received my third batch of Dark Eldar miniatures from Elena today:

I'm very pleased with the results although I will make a few small changes when the rest of my army is completed like making the whip a powered weapon and give them an additional layer of an anti-shine matt varnish because the varnish Elena uses is just a little bit to glossy for my taste. But all in all this looks pretty neat and I can't wait to have them on my gaming table. :)

The last one is obviously not from GW but from Raging Heroes but I think this girl will make a great addition to my army as an archont. It's not the first time I've found a cool mini to complement one of my armies. RH really makes cool stuff! :)

Miniature Spotlight: Dark Eldar Incubi

The first Dark Eldar mini is painted. It took some time because three somewhat different paint themes were used until I decided that the best way to go would be very similar to the classic Dark Eldar look:

While I focus on my own paint projects my Dark Eldar army will be painted by the lovely Elena. The green edge of the base has to go but aside from than I'm very excited about Elenas paint job. I will post pictures from the rest of the squad when they are finished and on my table.
I met Elena a few years back on the SPIEL, the biggest game fair in Europe and she has painted a few of my miniatures over the past years whenever I was to engaged in other projects and had no time to paint.

I'm very happy that she will paint my whole Dark Eldar army, I really like her style. Over the cause of the next few days I will get some paint done myself and work on the miniatures from my demon army. When everything goes as planned the next WIP pictures will up at the end of the week. :)

Since I was forced to cancel my Armorcast battlefield scenery order because they haven't delivered anything to their wholesalers here in Germany for over two month I decided to switch to some 40K stuff I had my eyes on for some time:

I haven't decided yet on the role the Dark Eldars will play in the Dark Prophet Universe. At first I was thinking in the direction of space pirates and mercenaries but now I'm leaning towards the concept of integrating them into a system of noble houses constantly at war with each other. This still leaves the space pirates thing for the Orks, for which I think they are pretty perfect.
