I repainted my undead wolves from the Zombie Wolves Set I, Set II and Set III from Gamezone Miniatures:

I really love the menacing, gruesome look of these zombie wolves. Best I've seen so far.

Miniature Spotlight: Knight of Shrouds on Ethereal Steed from Games Workshop

Miniature Spotlight: Thorns of the Briarqueen from the Warhammer Underworlds Nightvault Set

I painted the really awesome Thorns of the Briarqueen, a Nighthaunt warband from the Warhammer Underworlds: Nightvault Set:

The Thorns of the Briarqueen consist of 7 miniatures: The Briar Queen in the center, the Ever-Hanged (front row left), Varclav the Cruel (front row reight) and 4 Chainrasps. One of the 4 was very elusive, because I accidentally put him in the post about the Chainrasps Horde from the Soul Wars Set:

But he is actually part of the Thorns of the Briarqueen. :)

Miniature Spotlight: Lady Olynder, Mortarch of Grief from Games Workshop

I really enjoyed painting Lady Olynder, Mortarch of Grief from Games Workshop. It's a great model to paint even though it is very shaky with just one small connection to its base. But it really captures the illusion of a giant flowing undead creature on the gaming table perfectly.

My undead army is growing with might and magic:

I bought the Necromancer from Games Workshop when he was still on a square base so I converted him to a round base. As with the Wight King with Baleful Tomb Blade I really like the static, powerful pose of the miniature combined with the dynamic of his robes.

I bought the Wight King with Baleful Tomb Blade from Games Workshop quite a while ago and finally found time to paint it:

I really like this miniature. He looks like a powerful leader of an undead force and the mixture of the static pose with the dynamic of the cloak really works for me.

Miniature Spotlight: Chainrasp Hordes from Games Workshop (Soul Wars)

I bought Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soul Wars recently and I'm amazed by the awesome content of the box. I started painting the Nighthaunt army immediately. It also was a good opportunity to buy some GW paints. I used almost exclusively Vallejo paints my whole life but I'm starting to really like the GW paints, especially the shades and glazes. Nihilakh Ocide and Nighthaunt Gloom are als very good technical paints that made painting the Nighthaunt army really fun.

The first 10 models of the Chainrasp Hordes were my color testing models and I really like how they turned out:

He is actually from the Warhammer Underworlds: Nightvault box. He blended in so well with the other that I didn't notice it until I shot the pictures. Instead of him, this Chainrasp should have been in his place:

Miniature Spotlight: Crypt Horrors from Games Workshop

I needed a few large Ghouls for my Kingmaker Campaign so I painted the awesome Crypt Horrors from Games Workshop:

What really did excite me about this project was the chance to use the UHU glue blood and gore technique again which I previously used on my Crypt Ghouls. Here is a group shot of the Necrophages:

Miniature Spotlight: Zombie Horde from Mantic Games

I really, really like the Mantic Zombies. They are just awesome. So I painted another 25 of them:

Miniature Spotlight: Crypt Ghouls from Games Workshop

I wanted to test the "UHU glue blood and gore technique" and the Crypt Ghouls from Games Workshop were the perfect test subjects:

Since my undead army has a graveyard theme the bases feature the same tombstones I used for my modular City Graveyard. I painted them with both airbrush and traditional brush and used tree bark for the rocks. The tufts are the "early fall" two colored tufts from Mininatur.

Miniature Spotlight: Vampire Counts Grave Guard

I finally finished painting my Vampire Counts Grave Guard:

I might have gone a little bit overboard with the blood effects and I'm actually not such a big fan of painting blood on miniatures in the first place. But I really wanted to try painting blood with Tamiya Clear Red, X-27 and since I liked the idea of an blood stained order of elite undead knights I gave it a shot. All in all I'm pleased with the look.:)

The Happy Spender: Vampire Lords and Human Hunters

I made two new additions to my Undead Army:

I really like this winged vampire and I will use him as one of the Warlords who fight for the honor of being the Champion of Chaos who summons the Son of Ba'al. :)

Normally I would have my problems with this miniature since I usually prefer a dynamic battle pose. But this one will make an awesome atmospheric miniature.

I can't wait to paint these! :)

The Happy Spender: For the Lich King!

I recently realized that I could not upload any of my photos about my newly painted minis because my notebook does not accept either my card reader nor my photo editing software. So any updates on that topic will have to wait 4 to 8 working days until my new computer arrives.
On the other side this gives me the opportunity to show you some stuff I recently bought to strengthen my undead army:

All of these are assembled and ready to paint with the exception of the Coven Throne and Mortis Engine who are disassembled in various parts and wait to be equipped with various magnets so that I can use them in the version I need. :)

Battle Report: The Keep

After discovering deep-rooted discontent in the ranks of the undead the templars came into the knowledge that the once mighty Bane of the Living is now enslaved to the will of the Dark Prophet Desmodar. After their undying leader, the Lich King, was defeated by the Dark Lord and imprisoned in the citadel of unlife deep in the primeval forest from whom no living has ever returned, the undead became mere thralls to the will of Lord Desmodar.

A General of the undead army, the vampire Lord Karsakas, is secretly still loyal to his undying leader, the Lich Kind, and eagerly awaits a possibility to rebel against the Dark Lord. He had heard rumors of Angels send out by a newborn God to fight against the Shadow. His spies had observed the Templars from the moment as they reached Mortheim and he is impressed with what he has been told. Now he wishes to see with his own eyes if these supernatural creatures of legend the rumors speak of are truly before him or if these Knights of Sigmar are mere mortals. If they could pass a test of might he would give them the fourth Seal of Death and offer them an alliance against the Dark Lord. The Templars, desperate and running out of time, agreed to the test. All they need to do is find Lord Karsakas in his keep and not be killed on the way. With weapon and shield at hand, they entered the castle. 

The Ground Level

The Templars fought an imprisoned Ogre who was on his own quest: Killing the Templars to regain his freedom

Undead soldiers stay guard...

...while others roam for the flesh of the living.

Spirits...

...and Ghosts...

...in the corners...

...of every room...

...rose up against the Templars....

...all to be slayed by them.

Even the mightiest undead...

...could not conquer blade, spell and faith.

The Templers survived the ground level of the keep but did come close to death more than once. The healing power of Sigmar restored their life on several occasions but without time to draw breath and pray to restore the holy might no one can say if what lays before them can be mastered. But their faith is unshattered and so they continue their quest to find Lord Karsakas to whatever end awaits them.
