Miniature Spotlight: Bloodreavers from Games Workshop I

I'm working on my Demon Army and I have a lot of awesome looking Bloodreavers from the Thunder & Blood Box Set as well as from the Khorne Bloodreavers Set from Games Workshop on my worktable. The first of the bunch is done and ready for the gaming table:

Miniature Spotlight: Krull, the Servile Lord of Dis from Mierce Miniatures

It was a long way...

...but Krull, the Servile Lord of Dis is finally done. I've got this really, really awesome miniature from the very first Mierce Miniatures Kickstarter back in 2013. I don't really remember when I received it, maybe sometime in 2014, I just remember that it took me almost 2 years to assemble it because the pieces didn't fit together very well and I needed a ton of Green Stuff to make it work. He was fully assembled in March 2016 but it took me another two years of training my painting skills before I was ready to put some paint on this bad boy. Now he is done and I'm extremely happy with the result. I love how he skin tones work together and that the paint theme in general works well. I really like the look of the horns and I'm very happy with the wings. I could spend additional time on the armor, which looks quite well but not as good as possible. But I've spend so many hours on this project that I've decided that it's finished. At least for now. Maybe in another two years I spend another 20 to 40 hours on him. A miniature is never really finished, isn't it? ;)

But for now I'm enjoying the feeling of a completed paint job that was a big part of my painting life.

On the Worktable: Krull, Malacant and Scecchus from Mierce Miniatures

Almost three years have past since I bought one of the most awesome demon miniatures on the market: Krull, the Servile Lord of Dis from Mierce Miniatures. During that time I also bought Malacant, the Servile Champion of Dis and Scecchus, the Servile Fiend of Dis.

It took me a while to assemble the miniatures because the pieces didn't fit together very well and I needed a lot of Green Stuff to make it work. Krull was laying halfway put together right next to the so extremely awful beholder for over 2 years before I started to finish the assembly on March 1st. And despite the fact that the assembly of all three demons was definitely no fun at all I'm really looking forward to painting these bad boys. :)

On the Worktable: Three Demon Princes from Games Workshop WIP

I really like the fierce look of the Demon Prince from GW and since there can never be enough large demons on the gaming table I build three different versions of him:

 

 

The armor from the second version was converted to match the fantasy setting and he will get wings but I opted for not gluing them on his back at this stage so that they wouldn't be in the way when I paint him. All demons will be mounted on the chaos bases from Micro Art Studio as shown above but are also not glued at the moment so I can paint up the miniatures and bases separately.

On the Worktable: Creating a Custom Base for the Greater War Demon from Ultraforge

I made a custom base for the Greater War Demon from Ultraforge. The goal was to create a base that would work well when used alongside the chaos bases from MicroArtStudio and I wanted to integrate the rock base from Ultraforge into the design. I used tree bark for the spiky rocks and added a few skulls here and there:

 So far so good. Now I need to get everything cleaned up and ready for painting. :)

Miniature Spotlight: Bloodletters of Khorne

A while ago I started painting a group of Bloodletters of Khorne. That ended in a fiasco when I used a new and untested matt varnish that killed them instantly. An old lesson learned again, always test your varnish first. I moved on, found a new perfect matt varnish and painted a lot of other stuff since then.
Now my campaign is in serious need of more demons and so I decided to once again paint some Bloodletters. This time I painted them with my airbrush and I really like the result:

All Blootletters are on 25mm Chaos Bases from Micro Art Studio. I removed the chains and metal stuff from the bases and used Vallejo pigments to paint them. The paints I used for the demon skin were Gory Red (GC) as base, Dragon Red (Warpaints) as first highlight and Orange Red (MC) as second highlight. I used Goblin Green (GC), Livery Green (GC) and Dead White (GC) for the swords. I'm especially happy with the look of the power weapons since this is the first time I painted something like this. :)

The Happy Spender: Demons and Aberrations

It's time to fill up the ranks of my demon army! For starters I got a mighty demon prince for my gaming table:

Greater War Demon from Ultraforge

The picture above shows a painted version by ThirdEyeNuke. I was toying with the idea to get this beast for quite a while and the inspiration I got from his awesome paint job was the nudge I needed to get him for my game. :)

And since a big chunk of my campaign involves a legion of plague-ridden aberrations I got the awesome Corrupters of the Apocalypse from Avatars of War and well as the Plaguebearers of Nurgle from GW. The Corrupters will be the foot soldiers of the aberration army while the Plaguebearers will be used as demonic abberations.

The picture above shows again a paint job by ThirdEyeNuke. This Dude has amazing skills!

So far so good. I'm really looking forward to paint these nasty creatures. :)

On the Worktable: Daemonettes of Slaanesh and Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord

I actually forgot to do a Happy Spender entry for these miniatures. But I got a few days of work and that gives me the time for some overdue updates on what is getting painted, assembled and everything else. :)

I think this mini looks very awesome. The only thing bothering me was his third arm so I removed it. 

 

 All miniatures are based on a Fire and Brimstone Base from Forgecraft Games.

These Minis are painted by Duc right now and I will get them back sometime this week.On another joyful note: My bases for the imperial army arrived today. I feared they may have gotten lost on the way over the big ocean but one month after I ordered them they finally arrived on my table:

The assembly can begin.  :)

On the Worktable: Demons and Ogres

I've met with one of my gamer girlz recently, a long time D&D player who just discovered the joy of painting herself and who loathes the assembly and cleaning of the miniatures just as much as I do. So to split the suffering we decided to get together and assemble some miniatures. I worked on my Demon Project while she worked on her new miniatures. Funny thing, she actually is a somewhat typical gamer girl who likes fairies and elves and such. So the logical army choice for her: High Elves Ogres. Because Ogres are awesome (and have the tiny little sweet Gnoblars, of course). She got a sweet army deal in one of our Games Workshop stores and is very eager to get some paint done. But that will take a while, because there is the oh so dreaded assembly and cleaning first.

So...you're going to be big scary Ogres some day, aren't you?

We actually managed to get one Ogre standing:

Miniature Spotlight: One Balrog is not enough!

I wanted to know how my new troopers look in battle. So I made a quick setup to illustrate that matter. It's kind of a "what would happen when a platoon of soldiers battle 2 Balrogs in an ruined building?" kind of setup. You know, a havoc-ish one:

On a side note: Some time ago a few of my players asked me why I would need a second Balrog. The answer was pretty simple: To kill them faster. ;)
I have three of them now. And a forth one that is converted to look more like a chaos demon. Experience Points need to be earned. ;)
