On the Worktable: The Empire of Mankind

Hi folks! :)
Sorry for my short absence. I got a very bad cold at the beginning of the month and because of work-related business I was not able to shake it of but instead put my body to a bit of stress which made the cold stay for almost all of July. That forced me to reschedule my plans to have my entire empire army assembled, cleaned and painted until the end of this month. I got them assembled and cleaned but I was not able to get a single drop of paint on them. Hopefully that change in the coming weeks. :)

Here are a few images of what did get done in July:

A lot of painting waiting to happen here

Stuff that goes BOOM

I magnetized the Volley Canon as well as the Rocket Battery to make them interchangeable

This is a very easy thing to do on this model

The coal thingy with the pincers (that is the absolutely correct technical term for that) is also magnetized and can be removed. I just forgot to take it of when I photographed it.

The State Troops

Handgunners / Crossbowmen

This very awesome miniature will represent Sigmar, the Emperor of Mankind in the Dark Prophet Chronicles

On the Worktable: The Empire Ironsides WIP I

There is some progress on the worktable:

The Ironsides
The Ironsides

I've drilled the gun barrels after making these pictures and right now I'm assembling the rest of my Empire Free Company. Tomorrow I will clean them together with the other assembled miniatures. :)

On the Worktable: The Manann's Blades WIP I

I've finished assembling the Manann's Blades. They are still a bit dusty and need to be cleaned. And I changed my workflow for the first time. Normally I base every miniature before painting them like I did with the Empire Greatswords. But I've decided to paint the bases separately to make it easer to work on them with my new pigments from Vallejo (which I really really love). :)

On the Worktable: Empire Greatswords WIP I

I've set myself a goal: To have my entire empire army assembled, cleaned and painted until the end of July. Not only because various piles of unpainted stuff is laying around but I actually need them in my campaign adventure in the next couple of month. I have 8 miniatures from the Empire Free Company already painted up and I'm in the process of assembling and cleaning everything else.

I've finished assembling the Empire Greatswords although I'm thinking about adding accessories like daggers and stuff to them. I will check what the Bitzbox has in storage for them. :)

On the Worktable: Empire Free Company WIP II

I've almost finished painting up the first eight men of the Empire Free Company. I was trying different color schemes for the bases and at first I didn't like any of them enough to use them for the whole army. But then I decided to give my new Vallejo Pigments a try. Since I never worked with them before it took me all day to test various effects. I must say I really like them. They add a very nice and subtle weathering effect to the bases that really helped to make the rather dull grey color way more interesting.

Almost done painting these up
I decided to go for a classic grey color scheme for the bases
Soon these will be part of a big army

I'm not sure if I will keep black as the color for the side of the bases because I think the sides also look quite well in stone color. I will make a final decision when I've painted up more miniatures. :)

The Happy Spender: Nobody expects the Imperial Inquisition!

The past 4 weeks were crazy in terms of my least favorite thing: work (booooh!)
But I have a few days off (finally) and I can dedicate  some time to my oh so neglected gaming hobby. I bought another paint shelve and painted up the first eight men of the Empire Free Company. I will upload photos of them on Saturday. And I bought an Inquisitor for my campaign:

I think the Witch Hound from Avatars of War will make a cool Inquisitor. And it will be fun to paint him. :)

On the Worktable: Empire Free Company WIP I

I've assembled the first of many miniatures from my new Empire army:

The minis are based on the Basic Ruins Fantasy Bases from Dragon Forge.

I'm eager to paint again, it has been way to long. I want to use these miniatures in our next game session so the plan is to get them painted up in the next 10 days. So far, so good. :)

The Happy Spender: Helblaster Volley Gun and Roofs

I bought heavy artillery for my imperial army:

and several roofs for my Dwarven Forge Sets:

I bought the roofs back in '11 and have already used them in the game session from January. Im almost done editing the pictures from that session and I will upload them in just a few days.

The Happy Spender: For the Empire!

My computer crashed so there was a short hickup in the updates about was is going on at my gaming table. It will take a few more days to get back to normal but my new computer is on its way and I can bridge the time with my notebook (even though it's as slow as a zombie with one leg).
Anyway, I have quite a few updates prepared for the next days. I finally found the time to paint a few miniatures (one waited somewhat around 5 years for that to happen.). And I'm allready preparing the next chapter of the Dark Prophet Chronicles. And for that I need a whole lot of new minis.
(I will always say something like that to justify "the addiction" by the way. There's always the need for more miniatures. ;) )

I need more Soldiers of the Empire, to be precise:

The Manann's Blades

The Ironsides Handgunner Regiment

The Greatswords Regiment

The State Troops

The State Handgunners

The Militia

The minis are on their way to me and will be based on the Temple bases I recently purchased from Dargon Forge. I think it will be quite fun to assemble and paint these guys. :)

On the Worktable: Hirst Arts Sci-Fi Setup

I'm making progress with the casting of my Sci-Fi sets. I have my first floors and walls ready and I decided to make a little setup. Nothing is painted yet but I wanted to get a feel for the possibilities of the individual parts. And I got inspired by the upcoming holoboards from MicroArtStudio and decided to create my own. I made several different designs and this setup includes the first example.

The Happy Spender: Kapitan Ivanka Kurganova

I really like my new Death Korps Army. But I always thought something was missing. Now I know what it was: It was Ivanka.

I'm not a big fan of the uber-sword. But she will make a fine addition to the Korps anyway. ;)

Miniature Spotlight: The Legions of Krieg WIP 2

I received the second batch of WIP pictures of the newly painted Death Korps soldiers from Duc today:

Duc has almost finished his part of the painting and they will arrive at my door sometime at the end of the week. If I'm lucky I will find the time over the weekend to make some minor paint touch ups and add a little scenery stuff to the bases. I'm thinking about a little razor wire here and there and some dead grass. I'm really looking forward to get my hands on these minis. :)

Miniature Spotlight: The Grenadier

Here's a first glance at one of the Grenadiers from the Death Korps of Krieg Grenadier Squad the Duc is painting for me right now:

I really like the dark and evil look of this guy!

I had a few minutes to spare so I made another video:

Miniature Spotlight: The Legions of Krieg

To complete my last session I've spend a lot of time over the last weekend putting together the Commissar, a Heavy Bolter Team, a Heavy Flamer Team, a second Command Squad, the Quartermaster and Retinue and a few minis from the Command HQ Squad:

I love the new bases from Dragon Forge. They're just awesome!
I've already sent all the newly assembled Death Korps minis on their way to the Duc and I'm really looking forward to see him working his magic with these minis. :)
