On the Worktable: Bases for the Empire Army

I painted around 90 bases for my empire army in the last few days. As mentioned in a previous post I bought bases from two different companies which look very similar to one another:

On the left are the Slate Ruins from Forgecraft Games and on the right the Temple bases from Dragonforge.
After painting them with Vallejo Model Air Color Dark Sea Grey I drybrushed them 3 times, each time a lighter shade of grey than before. Then I inked the bases with a 50/50 mix of the OOP Citadel Washes Badab Black and Gryphonne Sepia. After the ink was dry I drybrushed them again with a light grey color mixed from Air Color Dark Sea Grey and Game Color Dead White. The earth parts were painted with Vallejo Game Color Beasty Brown. After everything was dry I used the Vallejo Gloss Varnish to protect the paint job so far.

Then I used the Vallejo Pigments Dark Yellow Ocre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Natural Siena, Natural Umber and Dark Red Ocre to weather the bases:

I removed the excess pigments with Q-tips and used Vallejo Gloss Varnish again to protect the pigments and then Vallejo Matt Varnish to remove the shine. I'm very pleased with the result. The subtle weathering gives the bases a very good worn and battered look while not dominating the grey tones or making the bases look too colorful.
The picture below shows a finished mix of Slate Ruins and Temple bases and I'm very pleased with the weathering and how well these bases work together:

Now I have a small box full of bases waiting for miniatures. So far so good. :)
